Silvia Gaminde is a woman who has decided to start a business at the age of 58. In this interview she explains how she decided to start a business, how to start one and how has her life changed since then.
How did you decide to start this new project?
My father-in-law has a field in La Cerdanya and we wanted to take advantage of it.
Do you think you took a risk in starting the brand?
Yes, because nobody had any idea about making wine or how to start a business so the answer to your question is yes, we definitely took a risk.
Can you give us some advice on how to start a business from scratch?
You have to let yourself take advice from people, search for information. It is very important to be interested in the topic and really love it and be passionate about it.
What inspired the brand’s logo?
The piece of land in La Cerdanya has lots of horses and I have always loved them, I love what they give off, kindness, energy, resistance… So yes, horses inspired the brand’s logo.
Do you work alone?
No, I work with a whole bunch of people: an economist, an oenologist, an engineer, a designer and I take care of all of the marketing process.
What process should you follow to make wine?
It is a long process and it takes a long time. The process starts in March because in March the grapes are ready to collect. The wine spends 4 months more or less in the wine cellar.
What kind of wine do you produce?
I produce white wine. The white wine is from up in the mountain. The wine is cultivated at 1.230 meters high.
What kind of grapes do you grow?
I grow two different kinds of grapes, one is called Riesling. Our plan is to start growing Chardonnay soon.
How many hectares of land do you have?
I have got 1 but I am about to have 2 soon.
Do you see yourself working on that five years from now?
Yes, absolutely! That is the whole point.
From this new job what are the things that fulfill you the most?
All the things related to the land, working outside , animals, nature… I love all of this. It is fantastic.
Do you prefer working alone or in teams?
Definitely in teams. It is impossible to do it on your own. There are lots of grapes to collect, bottles to design…
What motivates you? What inspires you?
I am motivated because it is a beautiful job and a family project.
What is the wine’s name?
The wine’s name is CampGran.
How has your life changed since you started this job?
I used to work at an office sitting down all day long. Now I work outside with animals, nature, all of the things that I love.
Why did you choose this image to represent your wine?
This image was painted by my mother-in-law before she passed away. We wanted to have a piece of her in this project so we added her painting.
